Saint Laurent SS25: Strength, Style, and 1970s Nostalgia Reimagined

sAINT LAURENT: Redefining Power Dressing

Saint Laurent's SS25 collection made its mark on the runway in Paris, featuring Bella Hadid’s highly anticipated return after a two-year break, during which she focused on her mental health and well-being. This collection was unforgettable, embracing maximalism with boxy blazers and trousers, complemented by sleek, slicked-back hair and bold, chunky-framed glasses. The oversized outerwear, sharp lapels, shiny leather belts, and fine ties evoked a strong sense of 1970s nostalgia.

The collection celebrated a balance of work and ‘play’, as showcased by the evolving color palette on the runway. Pops of metallic green, blue, orange, and red, accented with striking floral details, highlighted this playful yet powerful theme.

It has been 58 years since Yves Saint Laurent introduced the iconic "Le Smoking" tuxedo for women, and this collection paid tribute by reimagining the garments with a new perspective. While previous designs and collections were tailored to accentuate women’s form, the latest designs challenged this norm, maintaining the structure and discipline of the traditional men’s suit. The first looks stood out for their comfort, a departure from creative director Anthony Vaccarello's past collections.

Saint Laurent’s SS25 collection embraced the essence of power dressing. Born in the late 1970s and refined in the 1980s, power dressing allowed women to assert their authority and independence through fashion. More than just a style, it is a strategic statement of confidence, competence, and authority. Its roots can be traced to Chanel's 1920s suit, which revolutionized women's fashion with its collarless jacket and fitted skirt. Over time, icons like Katharine Hepburn and Georgia O’Keeffe embraced suits, and brands such as Tom Ford and Stella McCartney have since continued to explore this evolution. Now, Saint Laurent takes the spotlight.

At NYES, a woman-owned business, Saint Laurent’s SS25 collection resonated deeply with us as it captures the essence of empowerment and authority. Suits, once symbols of male power, have been redefined by women to express confidence and equality, especially in industries where they’ve historically been underrepresented. The collection’s blend of masculine structure with feminine tailoring tells a story of strength and independence- values we champion at NYES.

Just as Saint Laurent elevates classic designs with a modern twist, we offer over 60 innovative services that help brands and designers create timeless, impactful pieces. Whether through expert tailoring, textile innovation, or trend insight, we, like Saint Laurent, are committed to delivering sophistication, versatility, and a forward-thinking approach.
