The Oscars 2024

The 96th Academy Awards were held at Dolby Theater on March 10, 2024. Celebrities arrived in show-stopping gowns and tuxedos to wow each and every audience member. Many outfits had allusions to the past, like how Carey Mulligan's dress recreated Cristóbal’s ‘Mermaid’ dress from 1951. No one shied away from diamonds and bedazzling, and Ariana Grande, in a huge blush-pink gown, and Lupita Nyong’o in a powder-blue sequin gown, are just two examples of color on the red carpet. This event commemorated the magnificent talent of each actor, producer, director, and more, and what better way to show off your accomplishments than in an incredible red carpet look.

Eight of the best-dressed on the red carpet

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh arrived on the red carpet in a stunning, bedazzled Del Core silver dress. The floating straps perfectly match the silver Bulgari snake necklace wrapped around her neck, along with the rest of the Bulgari jewelry. If you look closely, you can see the bottom of her red platform heels, blending in with the carpet.

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski

A second gown with floating straps was worn by Emily Blunt. Her Schiaperelli dress looked stunning alongside her husband’s, John Krasinki, cream colored tuxedo with a matching cream colored bowtie.

Da’vine Joy Randolph

Da'vine Joy Randolph, who won for Best-Supporting Actress, wowed the crowd in this magnificent, Cinderella-esque dress. The custom-made Louis Vuitton gown had a hand-embroidered bodice and impressive tulle fringe sleeves to top it off.

Lily Gladstone

This stunning midnight blue and velvet Gucci gown was created in collaboration with Joe Big Mountain, an Indigenous artist, so that the dress could pay tribute to Native American design. The matching earrings and necklace tie the whole ensemble together.

Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling spiced up his red carpet look with a custom Gucci tuxedo, obviously adorned with silver sequins on the edges. This was not his only suit of the night, as during his live performance of “I’m Just Ken,” he wore an entirely bedazzled hot-pink suit. The audience (and I) were super pleasantly surprised.

Anya Taylor-Joy

Anya Taylor-Joy wowed the red carpet in this Christian Dior Haute Couture gown. Inspired by Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus,” an Italian painting from the 1400s, the skirt was designed with layers of blinged-out petals and feathers.

Colman Domingo

Best Actor nominee, Colman Domingo, always knows how to emphasize the difference between a suit and a red carpet look. This double breasted Louis Vuitton suit had special detailing of a diamond bow tie with matching diamond buttons, created by David Yurman. During E’s red carpet coverage, Domingo explained, “I wanted to just shine like a diamond.”

Sandra Hüller

Sandra Hüller, a German actress nominated for Best Actress, wore this structurally impressive, custom Schiaparelli gown, paired with jaw-dropping Cartier jewelry. If you are going to wear black to a red carpet, this is the only acceptable, and incredible, way.
