The Symbiotic Relationship Between Fashion Brands and Celebrities

The first official celebrity fashion brand was created by Jenny Lind, a famous Swedish opera singer, in 1850. Her line became very popular in the United States and set a precedent for celebrities to be more involved in fashion besides just getting styled by their designer friends. Fast forward over 150 years later, and celebrities, branding, and fashion go together like peanut butter and jelly.

There has been a surge of celebrities collaborating with fashion brands to create their own capsule lines in the last decade. It is a wonderful way for both the brand and the celebrity to reach a new audience while injecting some creative innovation into both of their worlds. Tyler the Creator and Louis Vuitton released their collaboration in March of this year, Dior’s work with F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton was just announced, and the iconic Travis Scott “Cactus Jack” collection produced by Nike is still a staple in hundreds of closets. While many celebrities have taken the creative reigns with capsule collections, dozens of A-listers have decided to take it one step further by creating their brands.

The Row by Mary Kate and Ashley Olson has been the face of “quiet luxury” and quickly risen to the top as one of the most coveted designer brands, Rihanna revolutionized lingerie with her inclusive Savage x Fenty, and Kim Kardashian has established herself as a shapewear mastermind with Skims.

New York Embroidery Studio is no stranger to the mutual relationship between celebrity and fashion, and we’ve had the honor to collaborate with some of the biggest names in fashion and the entertainment industry.

Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour was iconic in every way possible, especially when it came to her wardrobe. She had custom and archive pieces from leading fashion houses such as Balenciaga and Thierry Mugler. New York Embroidery Studio played a hand in her show-stopping collection by working with Marc Jacobs and Telfar to hot fix their one-of-a-kind designs
