Hand-Guided Chain Stitch Embroidery for Daina Shobrys’ Fine Art Installation

Project Overview

Some projects remind us just how versatile embroidery can be. We partnered with fine artist Daina Shobrys to provide custom embroidery for a larger-than-life floral installation, on view at the Fuller Craft Museum. The exhibition transforms delicate fabric into towering, sculptural botanical forms.

To help bring the artist’s vision to life, our team added hand-guided chain stitch embroidery directly onto the massive structural lotus leaves. Using traditional chain-stitching techniques in an unexpected, fine-art context, we meticulously mapped out and stitched intricate detailing that highlights the natural veining and organic texture found in living leaves. This delicate, fluid stitch work provides crucial depth and tactile realism, allowing the lines to flow gracefully across the sculpted textile surfaces.

It is always exciting to see classical embroidery craftsmanship applied to contemporary, monumental art—proving that a stitch can become part of an experience much larger than itself.
