By over relying on Chinese produced PPE, we’ve failed our healthcare system by introducing unreliable logistics, lack of quality control, and supporting unethical labor practices.

Thanks to representatives Patrick Henry, Bill Pascrell, and Drew Ferguson, “The American PPE Supply chain Integrity Act” implements the Berry Amendment standard of “100 percent of a product that is grown, reprocessed, reused, or produced in the United States” for the purchase of PPE by Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. It also resets the contract level for the Berry Amendment from $250,000 to $150,000 to ensure more PPE is made in America.

Representative Drew Ferguson wrote a letter urging President Joe Biden to require all PPE be made in the United States to require all PPE be made in the United States as part of an effort to avoid ongoing shortages.

The US PPE industry is growing and “have demonstrated the ability to meet the nation’s demand in the most difficult of times” and the congressman encouraged the Biden administration to “consider using this untapped domestic potential for a reliable source of supplies moving forward.”

According to section 6 of the bill, Berry Amendment to certain medical supplies and personal protective equipment are under Berry Compliance.

New York Emergency Supply has 57 factories producing personal protective wear in Brooklyn, New York, and manufactures over 2 million PPE gowns a week.
