The year was 2016 and Leonardo Dicaprio finally won an Oscar.

Thanks to the Revenant.

It only took 12 years and 7 nominations.

Apparently, seven was the lucky number.

The birth of the academy award of the gilded golden man started in 1939 after director Margaret Herrick had reportedly remarked the academy award looked like her uncle Oscar. The namesake became a trope of the award and the Oscars stuck.

The 8 pound, 24 carat gold plated statuette that actors and actresses alike would be so graciously blessed to receive is also a blessed time where designers and production teams scramble to dress them for the red carpet.

New York Embroidery Studio was fortunate enough to have worked with Marc Jacobs and Calvin Klein in creating gowns for Saoirse Ronan and Adriana Lima.

Saoirse had stunned in green sequins designed by Marc Jacobs. The panels of mosaic styled emerald green sequins were constructed carefully step by step in our studio. First, the individual sequins are laser cut. (Video demonstration below.)

Then after treatment and gathering of a million plus sequins are transferred and hand sewn onto panels marked with the intended design.

The effort and patiences was well worth it after seeing it’s debut on the red carpet.

Since then Saoirse has been nominated for The Lovely Bones, Brooklyn, and Lady Bird. The second youngest person to receive three oscars nominations before the age of 24.
