Christmas in Film and Fashion
It’s late December, and with that comes some of the most anticipated holiday celebrations of the year. Many await to start the holiday cooking, finding holiday movies to watch, and finding that perfect outfit for the holiday festivities. With Christmas being just a couple of days away, we wanted to take a look into the origins of Christmas, costumes used in classic movies about Christmas, and some of our swatches and sequins that put us into the holiday spirit.
The origin of christmas
Christians celebrate Christmas on December 25 as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, who is their spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Christmas Day became a federal holiday in the United States since 1870. The holiday involves decorating Christmas trees, exchanging of gifts, attending church and having meals surrounded by family and friends.
Costumes in Films
Classic films are known for having some of the most beautiful and elegant costumes in film history. We see these one of kind costumes in Christmas movies like White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), and Meet Me in St. Louis. We see a lot of velvet fabric used and traditional Christmas colors like white, green and red. We can also see different types of embroidery included in costumes being worn by Vera Ellen (first picture on the top left), and by Donna Reed (last picture on the bottom right).
Christmas Inspiration from our studio
As an embroidery studio, we love paying attention to detail in our work. For the holiday season, one’s outfits for the events and parties usually are made with sequins, and colors that trend are dark reds and greens.
