Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger at the Met Gala

Project Overview

A modern homage to Gustav Klimt’s 1907 masterpiece, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I. This project sought to bridge the gap between early 20th-century Austrian Symbolism and 21st-century couture. The goal was not merely to recreate a painting, but to emulate its luminosity and depth through wearable architecture.

Artistry & Technical Craft

To achieve the “Woman in Gold” effect, we utilized a multi-dimensional approach to textile engineering. Every square inch of the garment was designed to interact with the aggressive flash photography of the Met carpet.

  • Texture & Layering: A complex base of gold foil and punch-on gold studding provided a structural glow.

  • Intricate Embellishment: Hand-sewn sequins and precision beading were mapped to mimic Klimt’s iconic geometric patterns.

  • Light Manipulation: Thousands of gold crystals were strategically placed to ensure the garment transformed with every movement, creating a “breathing” aesthetic.

Every surface was built to catch the light in motion, turning the garment into a living, breathing canvas on the Met carpet.

The Impact

By merging the heritage of Tommy Hilfiger with the avant-garde craftsmanship of Joel Jolibe, this look became one of the most talked-about fusions of art and fashion of the night. It served as a testament to the power of texture in storytelling.
