Spotlight Piece: NYES x Jason Wu, Featured on Michelle Obama
Project Overview
NYES was proud to partner with Jason Wu on a standout look from his SS26 New York Fashion Week collection — a piece that has now been beautifully showcased on Michelle Obama in People magazine.
For this design, our studio crafted custom textile panels made from hundreds of hand-cut satin strips. Each strip was bias-cut into small segments and individually sewn together to form a flowing, ribbon-like patchwork. The process required meticulous placement, careful construction, and an extraordinary level of handwork to achieve the movement and texture seen in the final garment.
Seeing this collaborative piece worn by Michelle Obama and featured in People is a moment of immense pride for our team and a testament to the artistry behind New York–made craftsmanship.
Patchwork Collage for Jason Wu SS26
In collaboration with Jason Wu, NYES helped bring his patchwork collage dress to life — a piece recently worn by Michelle Obama in People magazine. Inspired by Robert Rauschenberg’s Hoarfrost series, each silk and novelty fabric strip was carefully placed, layered, and hand-sewn to build a fluid, collage-like composition.
The contrast of raw-edge satin against sheer organza created a modern, almost weightless texture, while custom colorways added depth and dimension. The final effect: a tapestry of movement and tone — delicate yet bold, contemporary yet undeniably timeless.
