Job Summary
The Product Development Assistant supports the Product Development and Technical teams in preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs), tech packs, sampling documentation, and manufacturing instructions for both PPE and garment production. This role ensures all development materials are accurate, organized, and aligned with NYES specifications, customer requirements, and internal quality and regulatory procedures under the ISO 13485 Quality Management System. This position plays a key role in sample coordination, pre-production documentation, and communication between design, engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure products are ready for production with complete and accurate technical information.
Essential Job Duties
Sampling & Pre-Production Support
- Coordinate sampling requests with production, sewing teams, R&D, and quality.
- Track sample status, record measurements, and consolidate feedback for revisions.
- Prepare sample evaluation sheets and collect required approvals before moving to pilot or production.
- Ensure sample materials, trims, and cut tickets are available and correctly documented.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Quality to ensure technical documentation aligns with compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with Engineering and R&D to update specs following process validations or production changes.
- Communicate updates to manufacturing teams and ensure the latest versions of documents are distributed.
- Assist in preparing technical documentation packages for customers, suppliers, auditors, or regulatory partners.
- Draft and update manufacturing instructions, layout guides, and assembly steps based on engineering and quality input.
Data Entry & Organization
- Maintain organized digital folders and master lists for all product development files.
- Input and update product specifications, BOMs, and component data into ERP/Creator systems.
- Track revisions and support traceability for all pre-production documents.
Production & Floor Support - Provide operators with correct manufacturing instructions, templates, and visual aids.
- Assist with resolving document-related questions during pilot runs or first-article builds.
- Record on-floor findings that require updates to tech packs, BOMs, or manufacturing instructions.
Requirements
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in fashion design, fashion technology, product development, engineering, or
related field preferred. - Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation and organizational skills.
- Understanding of garment construction or sewn-product development; PPE knowledge a plus.
- Experience with tech pack creation, BOMs, or product specs required.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Excel, Google Sheets, or similar tools; Illustrator or CAD experience is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment and learning structured quality procedures.
Location: Brooklyn Army Terminal – Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: On-site, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (30-minute lunch break)
Compensation: $50,000–$60,000 depending on experience
