NYFW 2023, What to Look Forward this September

New York fashion week is right around the corner, it is always the most exciting event to look for every fall for the fashionistas. It is fashion after-parties for some, but for designers, it is the time to showcase their forecast of the SS 2024 season. This period also marks the time of anniversaries, as Stuart Vevers at Coach, Christian Siriano and Rio Uribe at Gypsy Sport all commemorate significant milestones in their roles and brands.

a Time of Anniversaries

In the grand unveiling of their Fall 2023 collection, Coach once again reaffirms its unwavering devotion to the essence of American fashion. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant spirit of Generation Z, Stuart Vevers masterfully introduces a plethora of invigorating outerwear silhouettes into the Coach repertoire. "That's really my passion. As a designer, I've always been fascinated by the next generation. It's my inspiration right now”.

Christian Soriano pays homage to 'The Greats' in his Spring 2023 collection, drawing inspiration from Hollywood legends such as Katharine Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, and Bianca Jagger. "Sometimes there's more of a theme — I wouldn't say there's a theme [this time]. It's more about beautiful, great clothes I wanted to make," he says. "Also, there are no rules anymore. Everybody just wants to make beautiful clothes, and that's what I wanted to do. I just want to make pretty things."

Rio Uribe's SS23 collection celebrated diversity, featuring models of all shapes and sizes and blending LA street style with Latinx inclusivity. Commenting on Gypsy Sport’s return to the runway, Uribe said “I feel that there’s a recharge in LA for fashion, art and music, and people are paying attention to LA like never before. I’m from LA and lived in New York for years, but am now relocated back home to LA to start a new chapter and continue to grow my business here.”

A time of returning

During this edition of New York Fashion Week, a balance between familiar and novel emerges. Ralph Lauren is rejoining the lineup after an absence predating the pandemic, joined by returning figures like Jonathan Cohen and Phillip Lim. Lim holds a special optimism for this revival, expressing, "Immersed in the unedited essence of each day, we boldly pursue the potential of our most extravagant aspirations, sustained by the unique hope that only the spirit of NYC can inspire," as he anticipates his upcoming show.

Victoria’s secret, TIME TO RETURN

Victoria’s Secret is back this fall with their annual fashion show, but a bit different than the past — a world tour. The tour will be streaming on Amazon Prime on September 26th, with Doja Cat performing. The last Victoria’s Secret show was before covid even started, back in December 2018. Raul Martinez, EVP, head creative director of Victoria’s Secret, described this upcoming world tour as “ a celebratory moment representing the ultimate expression of our brand transformation”.

Anticipation is definitely building for the upcoming fashion week, with a blend of established names and fresh talents set to take the stage.  As designers converge to showcase their visions, there's an underlying sense of hope and audacity, fueled by the resilient spirit of New York City.
